Dear Friends, January 2007
I am amazed that God doesn’t give up on me. He is so gracious. It seems that I am always on my face before Him for one thing or another. And yet He never tires of my coming to Him. He is always there to pick me up, forgive and walk beside me. His love is so very great and unending! Praise the Lord His love endures forever!
You may be “surprised” to hear from me so soon, as I wrote just last month. Well, I am trying to do better in my communicating skills. I hope to write more often this year. We do want you to be informed of what we are up to and the wonderful things that God is doing here in Haiti.
We have been blessed already in 2007 with gifts for several projects. Here are a few of them:
1. We were able to purchase land for a church in Fond des Blancs, Haiti. (a village in the southern mountains) This is our newest church and God is blessing.
2. We were able to start construction on the church in St Antoine, Haiti. (a town just outside of Port-au-Prince, to the south) This church is also fairly new.
3. We received a large sum towards the purchase of the property that is adjacent to New Life Bible School. We have wanted to purchase this piece for many years and now have 75% of what is needed for that. Pray with us that God would provide the needed balance. ($4000)
4. The church of Croix des Mission, Haiti has received funds to put a cement floor in their building. This is the first church that was started under New Life Mission and it is also our largest. (about 500 attend every Sunday)
New Life Bible School is having a rough start this semester. Due to several things, including continued unrest in our area, classes have not always been able to meet. We have had to close 2 classes due to lack of students. Please pray for peace in Haiti and for God’s blessings on the students that they can pay their school bills.
It looks like we will be doing some traveling this spring. In February we will all go to the Dominican Republic for 5 days. We will drive and stay with a Korean pastor there who is interested in helping with New Life Bible School. Pray as we venture into a country where we do not speak the language. They speak Spanish! Yikes, we don’t know any! I suppose we will now get to experience what some of your felt when you visited us here!
Also, in early March, we have been invited to a missions conference in Trinidad. One ticket has been paid for and we are believing God to provide for the other. It is a great opportunity for us to expand our support base, as these folks are very interested in helping here in Haiti.
A few weeks ago Roger & Rachel went to visit a church in
the mountains and I found myself at home alone overnight. During the night I was awakened by gunfire
in the distance, which is not too unusual.
Being home, alone in the dark, I became a bit fearful and began to
pray. The following poem is what the
Lord gave me that night. I pray that it
will be a blessing to you as you read it
Let the Lions Roar
By Margaret Clark
As I was about to leave my house
I was approached by a small grey mouse
He said, “Don’t go out into the street today,
The lions are roaring, that’s what they say.”
So I sat on my doorstep and gave it some thought
I had places to go, there were things to be bought.
Then a still small voice whispered in my ear
“My child, my child, do not fear.”
I gathered my things and I went to the store
And all the way I heard the lions roar.
Roaring to the left and roaring to the right
Roaring straight in front of me, My what a sight!
The lions were out. What the mouse said was true.
So much roaring and roaring, what should I do?
I began to tremble. I was really quite shaken.
I supposed that I must’ve been mistaken.
The roaring got so loud, Oh wow!
I could hardly think. It was deafening now.
With the roaring so loud I could not hear
The still small voice that said, “Do not fear.”
I looked beside me and what did I see…
A lion inside the car with me!
Then he turned and showed me his face
All I could see were mercy and grace.
This was a lion I knew!
He was a friend, tried and true.
He leaned over close and spoke in my ear,
My child, my child, do not fear.
He assured me all would be fine
As he placed his hand on mine
He looked at me and he opened the door
He let out the mightiest ROAR!
Every lion to the left and the right
Began to shake and tremble with fright.
They fell to the ground, fell right on their faces
The Lion of Judah put them all in their places.
The Lion of Judah, yes, that’s His name
I’m sure you’ve heard of His glorious fame.
He IS the King of all lions, you see
When He roars everyone falls to their knee.
So, when you’ve places to go and things to be bought
Go ahead and do the things that you ought.
The Lion of Judah, He’s by your side
Just go hand in hand, He’ll be your guide.
When His roar goes out over the land
Know He holds you in the palm of His hand
And you just let those little lions roar
For the Lion of Judah is mighty at war.
Know that you are a vital part of the work of God here in Haiti. We appreciate each of you and pray that God will continue to draw you to Himself in 2007.
Love
In Christ,
Roger,
